Andrea Ferguson Jones has loved animals all of her life. After nearly twenty years as a "cat person", she entered the world of dogs in 2000 with her first Standard Schnauzer, Quinte, from Dinsdale Standard Schnauzers in Grafton, Ontario. Just over a year later, Harley joined the family after being returned to Dinsdale following major changes in his original family's situation. In 2010, Ryder came on the scene as Andrea's first puppy chosen with performance events in mind and first dog on a breeding contract. Expect him to burst into the agility ring in 2012... The family of five (including Andrea's husband, Stephen), lives in Markham, Ontario. Andrea is actively competing in Agility and Rally Obedience with her dogs. She has been on the organizing committees for the 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011 AAC Ontario Regional Championships and the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 AAC National Championships.
With two very active dogs in the house, Andrea decided to be proactive with their health and well-being and identified massage as a useful means to keep their muscles and joints in top form for the long term. Andrea began the Treetops Canine Massage Program in January 2006 which included a 14 week (over 150 hours) in-class program covering canine anatomy and physiology as well as hands on instruction in massage techniques. Following the completion and review of 40 case study massages, written and practical exams, Andrea was certified to practice canine massage on August 4, 2006.
Andrea's continuing education has included:
- Coaching the Canine Athlete (Chris Zink);
- Canine Acupressure; and
- Canine Reflexology.
In addition to her canine pursuits, Andrea works for a major engineering consulting firm in Thornhill, Ontario as an Environmental Scientist. She has a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Guelph and is a registered Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.).
